Texas Instruments presents the DRV8231 and DRV8231A integrated motor drivers, providing an efficient solution for brushed DC motor control. These drivers feature an N-channel H-bridge, charge pump, current regulation, and protection circuitry. The charge pump supports N-channel MOSFET half-bridges and 100% duty-cycle driving, improving efficiency by reducing power losses.
The DRV8231/A implements a current regulation feature by comparing the analog input VREF and voltage across a current-sense shunt resistor on the ISEN pin. This allows for current limiting during motor startup and stall conditions, significantly reducing large currents and improving safety.
Furthermore, the DRV8231 and DRV8231A feature low-power sleep mode, which achieves ultra-low quiescent current draw by shutting down most of the internal circuitry. Internal protection features include supply undervoltage lockout (UVLO), output overcurrent protection (OCP), and device overtemperature shutdown (TSD).
The DRV8231 comes in pin-to-pin, scalable RDS(ON), and supply voltage options, supporting various loads and supply rails with minimal design changes. Overall, Texas Instruments' DRV8231 and DRV8231A drivers offer an efficient and reliable solution for brushed DC motor control, with features such as charge pump, current regulation, and protection circuitry improving efficiency and safety.
